WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Richmond sits in fourth place after round one of competition at the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Resort Sunday.
The Spiders collectively shot a 307 (+23) in the first round to take fourth place. Senior Krystin Schwarze led Richmond with a 75 (+4) total on the day, equaling a career-low round for the Chelsea, Mich. native.
“Krystin Schwarze has worked extremely hard,” said head coach Maggie Will. “She practiced and put in the effort all summer long and came back to school early ready to go. She is very engaged in practice and anything I've asked her to do, she's done. I'm thrilled for the great start to her senior year.”
Schwarze's total was good for ninth overall. Senior Lauren Conder carded a 76 (+5) after the first round finishing 15th overall, while sophomores Jessica Lydia and Elizabeth Rubino shot 78 (+7) to place 21st.
“I'm really proud of our effort today,” said Will. “We hung in there and handled our first-round jitters. We are a young team, so it was nice to have an energizing start to the tournament.”
Nine teams are competing at the William & Mary Invitational with the Tribe and Morehead State tied for first (294, +10) after the first round.
Spiders resume action tomorrow at 8 a.m.
