Spiders Complete Action At Cissy Leary Invite

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Richmond women's tennis team completed day one at the Cissy Leary Invitational Friday.
Anna Abadias downed Vivian Cheng of Columbia 6-2, 6-4 in the Singles A flight while Kelsey Williams defeated Diamond Adams of St. Johns, 6-2, 6-3 in the Singles B flight first round.
Freshman Brittany Boys defeated A-10 rival Rhode Island's Cris Lopez-Fernadez in straight-sets in the Flight B singles round.
Boys and Abadias picked up a win in doubles action, deafeating Penn's Alex Ion/Srindi Raghaven, 8-5 in the round of 64.
Richmond continues action at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Day Two Recap
In the Flight A Consolation Final, Anna Abadias defeated Cassandra Thebault 6-1, 6-2, of Maryland while Melissa Kandinata downed Princeton's Joan Cannon 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.
Katya Salas also picked up a win in the Flight A quarterfinal with a win over St. John's Puck Vlaskamp.
In the doubles second-round consolation semifinal round Kandinata/Salas defeated Kate Winginham/Samantha Stolder of Bowdoin, 8-5 while Anna Abadias/Brittany Boys defeated Anna Morozova/Yanita Arnadouva of St. John's 8-5.
Day Three Recap
In the singles round Consolation Flight A Anna Abadias fell to eventual winner Ksenia Beretska of Akron, 6-4, 6-2. In singles around Consolation B action, Katya Salas defeated Katherine Whiteaway2-6, 6-3, 10-7. Salas ended the consolation Flight B with a team-high four victories. Salas recorded wins over Delaware, Bowdoin and Penn State.
Just as impressively, Abadias picked up victories over Delaware, Maryland and Princeton in the Singles Flight A division.
The Spiders continue fall play at the Wake Forest Invitational next weekend.
