Skipper, Hanley And Ruskan Receive A-10 Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Jason Skipper, Tara Hanley and Marisa Ruskan of the Richmond cross country program received Atlantic 10 weekly awards for their performances this past Saturday at the William & Mary Invitational, the league announced on Monday.
Skipper was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week, while Hanley was named the Women's Co-Performer of the Week. Ruskan was also rewarded by being named the Women's Rookie of the Week.
Skipper, a senior from Pittsford, N.Y., led the way for the Spiders at this past weekend's William & Mary Invitational with a time of 15:29.9 (5k) en route to a first-place finish. This performance marks the second time this season Skipper has been named A-10 Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week after previously winning the honor following his performance in the Spider Alumni Open.
Hanley, a sophomore from Chatham, N.J., recorded a time of 17:56.4 (5k) at the William & Mary Invitational and earned her first career collegiate victory as she led the Spiders to a first-place overall team finish. Along with the Spiders, the William & Mary Invitational consisted of host William & Mary, Hampton and A-10 member VCU. Margo Richardson of Saint Louis shares the award with Hanley.
Ruskan, a freshman from Bound Brook, N.J., finished second among collegians in the William & Mary Invitational with a time of 18:07.8 (5k). She was one of four Richmond runners to finish in the top 10 of the race.
This is the first time Hanley and Ruskan have won A-10 weekly honors.
The Spiders return to action Saturday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
