NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior Rebecca Barry and freshman Emma Johansson of the Richmond field hockey team collected Atlantic 10 weekly honors, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Barry was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week, while Johansson tabbed the Rookie of the Week award.
"Rebecca and Emma work very hard in the attacking third and are very deserving of this praise," commented head coach Gina Lucido. "They are a threat any time they enter the circle. Equally, they would be the first to point out that our collective success creates these opportunities for them, and return the praise to our strong team play."
Barry had two game-winning goals, helping the Spiders to a 2-0 week and a four game win streak overall. The Limerick, Ireland, native had three goals and one assist for a seven-point week. Barry recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Hofstra Friday, before tallying the first two goals in the 3-1 victory over Columbia Sunday afternoon.
Barry shares this week's award with Selena Adamshick of Saint Francis.
Johansson had three points on the week as she helped the Spiders extend their win streak to four games. The Gibbsboro, N.J., native scored a goal and added an assist in what proved to a 4-0 Richmond win over Hofstra on Friday.
This is the second-straight week field hockey collected an award.
The Spiders will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 26 when they take on the Longwood Lancers at 6 p.m. in Farmville, Va.
