Swim & Dive Edged By Duke In Durham

DURHAM, N.C. – The Richmond swimming and diving squad finished second this weekend in their meet against Duke University (160-131).
Richmond started the day on fire, claiming first, second and third in the 1000 free and the 200 free. Emma Terwilliger (10:25.24) was the first of the Spiders to touch the wall in the 1000 free, followed closely by Molly McSweeney (10:25.50) and Meredith Gouger (10:35.59).
Natalya Ares (1:55.14) led the trio of Spiders at the front of the 200 free. Jessie Krebs (1:55.31) and Allison Titley (1:56.08) kept close throughout the race, with both finishing less than a second behind Ares.
Senior Mali Kobelja continued her solid season winning the 100 breaststroke (1:04.00), 200 IM (2:05.25), and taking second in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.16). Following close behind Kobelja in the 200 IM were Gouger, Erin Brady and Taylor Johnson, who took second (2:09.89), third (2:12.49) and fourth (2:15.50).
Sophomore Kelley Yang and freshman Rachel Dumez also had strong performances in the water. Yang won the 100 fly (55.70), while Dumez finished second (2:05.96) in the 200 backstroke.
Freshman Irina Chiulli led the Richmond diving squad in both events. Chiulli was able to win the 1-meter (268.43) and take third in the 3-meter (270.38).
Richmond will jump back in the pool Thursday, Feb. 19, when it travels to Geneva, Ohio for the Atlantic 10 Championships.
