Women's Lacrosse Announces 2015 Captains
10/13/2014 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond women's lacrosse has announced tri-captains for the 2015 campaign. Senior goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Maryland), senior defender Erin Marie Geoghan (Highland, Maryland) and senior midfielder Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, New York) will lead the squad next spring.
“These three student-athletes have a lot of experience on the field and I am confident that their experience as well as strong leadership qualities will continue to propel this team forward,” said head coach Allison Evans.
Boyce, Geoghan and the defense worked hard to post Richmond's second-lowest goals-against average, at 7.83, in 2014. That total was eighth-best in the NCAA and was a key factor in the team turning in an 11-win season, the most since 2007.
Boyce had three games allowing only four goals and turned in 103 saves for the season. She was one of only two goalies to log in 700-plus minutes in goal for the season.
“Emily's confidence in the cage has helped her develop into a strong voice for us on defense,” said Evans. “She is consistently directing the defensive unit and encouraging those around her. Our defense plays at a higher level because of the presence she has in the cage.”
Geoghan was one of three defenders on the team to collect at least 20 ground balls (23) and she played in all 18 games last season. She also earned Academic All Conference. She also won four draws and caused eight turnovers on defense last season.
“Erin has grown into an incredibly strong leader for us on the defensive end,” said Evans. “She is tenacious on the field and pays attention to all the little details, getting the most out of herself and her teammates.
Jeszeck was a co-captain last season and was a Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference and Academic All-Conference selection after putting up 24 goals and 15 assists. She was fifth on the team in scoring, second in assists and points (39) for Richmond.
“Anna is such a spark for us on the field and has the ability to create momentum-changing plays for our team,” said Evans. “Anna gives her maximum effort all the time and expects the same from her teammates. Her effort, intensity and demand for excellence are contagious and important elements to our success.”
The Spiders will get underway with the 2015 campaign on the road at Duke on Friday, February 13 before hosting Virginia on Feb. 18. Both contests start at 5 p.m.
