Fan Enhancements for 2014-15 Basketball Season Announced

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - At the end of last basketball season, the athletics department sent a survey out to its many fans. We received hundreds of responses. As a result of the survey, here are just some of the enhancements the athletics department has instituted for game day at the New Robins Center in 2014-2015. We hope you enjoy. We want our fans to have the best possible game day experience.

Last year's renovations to Robins Center changed the dynamics of the arena as it related to the sound system. So for this year, eight new speakers were added to the speaker cluster under the center hung LED ribbon board and all of the speakers have been redirected to enhance the clarity of music and p.a. announcements for the entire arena.

University Dining Services has enhanced its menu options at the concessions stands. Some of the highlights include healthier options at two kiosks such as a fruit cup, veggies and dip, apples and carmel as well as soft pretzels. A few items from national brands have been added including a new barbeque sandwich from Brookwood Farms, a new hot dog from Hebrew National, and wings from Buffalo Wild Wings! Additionally, hamburgers will be offered for the first time, Sweet Frog will be made available in the Sweet Frog Family Fun Zone on designated Franklin Federal Kid's Club games, Gourmet Popcorn Wagon will provide popcorn and cotton candy on site and Keurig coffee will be made available at every permanent concession stand.

The Sweet Frog Family Fun Zone will offer frozen yogurt to kids and families on Franklin Federal Kid's Club games and new games and activities will be added like a “pop-a-shot” for the slightly older Kid's Club member. Educational themes will be introduced to the Sweet Frog Family Fun Zone and special guests will visit the area for Kid's Club games.

We will have our first “Red-Out” by providing 7,201 red t-shirts to fans on February 21 vs George Washington and we will offer a Spider “One Richmond” baseball cap as a give-away to the first 2000 fans on Dec. 28 vs. Wake Forest. In addition, there will be concession discounts such as $1 popcorn and soda for the opening men's basketball game vs Radford and selected other games.

There will be more fun fan interaction on the video boards including new noise meters on the video board for fans to get loud, less on court contests and the new team intro video will be changed/updated throughout the year.

Our cheerleaders will throw items from different locations throughout the season so all fans will be able to catch their favorite t-shirt, ball or give away items!

Our successful “Richmond's Got Talent” will be changed to “So You Think You Can Dance” competition! We will have the most interesting dancers from the area perform at various half-time throughout the season!

We will introduce a different celebrity cheerleader throughout the season to lead the Spider faithful into the “We Are UR” cheer!

You will see a giant corn hole game (Ukrop's Whitehouse Rolls/Cornhole Game) and in-arena blimp for a new time-out segment called Richmond Window Minute of Mayhem.

The athletic department will be recognizing local, community heroes at games throughout the season. Please see RichmondSpiders.com and nominate a local hero!

The Red Terrace is now named the Johnson Terrace in honor of Richard and Joyce Johnson and the Blue Terrace is named the Babb Family Terrace in honor of Harold and Michael Babb.

We have adjusted some exit plans to accommodate fans such as:
- Fans will be allowed to turn left or right once arriving to River Road.
- Fans exiting on Boatwright Drive will now have 2 options: Turn right on Campus Drive and travel on Towana Road to turn RIGHT on Three Chopt Road OR Continue up Boatwright Drive to turn LEFT on Three Chopt Road.
- Campus Police will work to empty parking lot B5 much quicker!
