UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Lauren Tolson's career-high 21 points led the Richmond women's basketball team over the Longwood Lancers, 80-50, Thursday night at the Robins Center.
In addition to Tolson's career high, redshirt-senior Genevieve Okoro added 16 points and sophomore Janelle Hubbard followed in with 15 points. Okoro and Hubbard have scored double figures in all three contests this season.
Tolson also led Richmond with seven rebounds as the Spiders improved to 3-0 on the season, while Longwood fell to 0-3 overall.
The Spiders continued its impressive shooting as they shot 49.3 percent from the floor and 42.1 percent from the three-point line. They also charted a season-high 85.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Richmond pressured the Lancers the entire 40 minutes as it forced 28 Longwood turnovers that turned into 32 points for the Spiders. Longwood was held to just 32.7 percent from the field and shot 58.8 percent from the free-throw line. Richmond also took the 42-30 rebound advantage.
After getting off to a slow start and only leading by two nine minutes in, the Spiders used a 14-1 run over a span of just three minutes to go up 24-13 with 7:25 left in the first half. Richmond went into the break leading 42-21 and never looked back.
All 13 Spiders who dressed saw action today, including freshman Kylie Murphree (three steals), Micaela Parson (four points), Alicia Hudalla (two rebounds) and Karleigh Wike (two rebounds).
Richmond will hit the road for the first time this season when it travels to Las Vegas, N.V., for the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout next week. The Spiders will face Central Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 27, before playing Arkansas two days later.
