11/03/2014 | Field Hockey
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Rebecca Barry of the Richmond field hockey team was named A-10 Field Hockey Player of the Week for her efforts against Davidson this past weekend, announced the conference office Monday afternoon.
A native of Limerick, Ireland, Barry helped the Spiders secure a spot in the A-10 Championship with a 6-1 win over the Davidson Wildcats Sunday. The senior midfielder tied a school record of five goals in the win to lead both teams with eight shots that were all on goal.
Barry's five goals marked a career-high for the senior as she now sits second all-time in career points (137) and third all-time in career goals (57) at Richmond. Barry is just two points away from becoming the Spiders all-time leader.
This is the second weekly honor Barry has received this season.
The Spiders, who were awarded with a No. 2-seed, will play No. 3-seed Saint Francis Friday, Nov. 7 to kick off the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship at 11 a.m. on Richmond's campus at Crenshaw Field.
