Trip To Oregon Highlights 2015 WLAX Schedule
12/17/2014 | Women's Lacrosse
A slate filled with teams ranked 34 or higher in the RPI populates the Richmond women's lacrosse schedule set for 2015. The Spiders, who finished 35th in the RPI last season after an 11-7 campaign, will host Virginia, James Madison and Duquesne, which all finished 34 or better in the RPI last season. The Spiders face three teams (Duke, Virginia and Massachusetts) ranked in the final Top 25 IWLCA Coaches Poll of 2014.
Richmond will also make a first-ever trip to Oregon, taking on the Ducks for the only other time since a visit to Richmond in 2008. It is the longest trip for women's lacrosse for a road game since a visit to Notre Dame on March 12, 2000.
The Spiders will start the year at Duke on Friday, February 13 at 5 p.m., which finished eighth in the RPI and the coaches poll last season, before hosting Virginia, ranked fourth in the final poll last season, in the home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. The Spiders will host American before playing four-straight in-state teams, at Longwood and Liberty ahead of hosting Old Dominion and James Madison in the first week of March.
“We are very pleased with our 2015 schedule,” said head coach Allison Evans, who enters her third season in charge of the Spiders program this February.
“Our non-conference schedule includes many local rivals and we are really looking forward to the opportunity to travel to the West Coast to play Oregon. It will obviously be a challenge opening with Duke and Virginia, but we feel the non-conference schedule will prepare us well for Atlantic 10 play.”
The Spiders head to Eugene for a Sunday, March 15 game at Oregon, which will be followed by a game at William & Mary that Friday, the 20th.
The Spiders then start a tough Atlantic 10 Conference docket at home, with three straight games at Robins Stadium to begin league play, capped off with conference meeting against new A-10 program Davidson on April 4. The home finale is scheduled against Duquesne on Sunday, April 19 before heading to Massachusetts and La Salle to end the regular season.
The Spiders finished in a tie for second last season, earning the number-two seed in the A-10 Championships, hosted by Richmond. The Spiders made it to the Championship game, winning that 11th game on the way to the final game. The 11 wins were the most under the direction of Evans, who begins her third season with UR this season.
