Spider Hockey Places Four On VaSID Teams

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Four Spiders of the Richmond field hockey team earned VaSID All-State field hockey honors, announced Friday. Senior Rebecca Barry, junior Amy Cooke and senior Kelley Wentling were named to the All-State First Team, while junior Allison Haas was placed on the All-State Second Team.
A three-time All-American, Barry led the Spiders to their eighth Atlantic 10 Championship as she was named the 2014 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year. The three-time First-Team All-Region honoree finished the year with a team-high 15 goals, four assists and 64 points and became Richmond' s all-time lead in career points. She sits in the top six in all three attacking categories as she has been placed on the All-State First Team all four years.
Cooke was a standout on defense in her third season as a Spider. The Ballyclare, Northern Ireland, native helped Richmond to eight shutouts and limited its opponents to just 1.5 goals per game to be placed on the All-State First Team for the second-straight season.
Wentling, the 2014 A-10 Most Outstanding Player, helped Richmond win the Atlantic 10 Championship by not allowing a single goal in the conference tournament. The Reading, Pa., native finished the season with seven shutouts, 1.53 goals against average and 56 saves to hold a 10-8 record.
Leading the nation with 11 defensive saves, Haas picked up her first VaSID honor. One of Richmond's top defenders, Haas has helped the Spiders to eight shutouts and has limited their opponents to 1.5 goals per game as she recorded two assists and started all 22 games this season.
Richmond finished the 2014 season 12-10 overall and 6-2 in the league, bringing home their eighth A-10 Championship in program history and making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
