
Tolson Nets 20 In Loss To Hampton Saturday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Despite junior Lauren Tolson's 20-point performance, the Richmond women's basketball team fell to the Hampton Lady Pirates, 64-53, Saturday night at the Robins Center.
Hampton (2-5) forced 19 Spider turnovers, which led to 24 points, and shot 44.6 percent from the floor to give Richmond its fourth loss of the season to drop to 3-4 overall.
Tolson also added seven rebounds to her 20 points, while two other Spiders followed in double figures. Sophomore Janelle Hubbard added 13 points, while senior Liz Brown followed with 11 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt-senior Genevieve Okoro grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and three assists.
The Lady Pirates held Richmond to 38 percent from the field, but the Spiders turned in a game-high 45 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range. Four of those three's were from Tolson as she went 4-of-6 from behind the arc.
In the first 20 minutes, the two teams battled until the buzzer as Richmond went into the half with a one-point lead after Tolson drained her third-straight trey as the clock hit zero. Tolson finished the first half perfect as she was 6-for-6 from the field, including 3-for-3 from three-point range for 15 points.
Hampton came out of the intermission and used a 17-8 run over the first eight minutes, which included three three-pointers, which held an eight-point lead at the 12:39 mark.
The Lady Pirates led by as many as 19 with three minutes to go to secure the victory.
The Spiders will return to the court Sunday, Dec. 14 to host ACC-foe Wake Forest at 2 p.m. at the Robins Center.
