02/22/2014 | Women's Track & Field
KINGSTON, R.I.- The indoor track and field team wrapped up the first day of Atlantic 10 Championships with a second place finish in the women's distance medley relay.
Duquesne just edged Richmond in the distance medley relay, preventing Richmond from winning it for the third consecutive year. The Spiders were however able to best their meet and facility record set at last years A-10 Championships. The relay comprised of freshman Marisa Ruskan, sophomore Jade Gregory, junior Taylor Clevinger, and senior Jill Prentice, finished 12 seconds (11:37.56) in front of third-place finisher St. Joseph's.
Earlier in the day Clevinger won her section and posted the top preliminary time in the 1000m (2:58.74). She is set to compete in the finals tomorrow.
Fellow DMR member, Jade Gregory, earned a spot in the 500m finals after taking second in her heat with a time of 1:16.67.
Sophomore Mary Allen and junior Deborah Fajuyigbe sprinted their way to a spot in the 200m finals, posting times of 25.06 and 25.26 (personal record). Earlier in the day Fajuyigbe secured a spot in the 400m final with a time of 57.56.
In field events, Janel Francis placed 12th in the long jump with a distance of 5.35m.
The Spiders hit the track tomorrow for the conclusion of the Atlantic 10 Championships. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. Live stats will be updated here.
