UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Despite senior Kristina King's 20 points, the Richmond women's basketball team fell to the George Washington Colonials, 72-58, Saturday at the Robins Center on Senior Day.
Richmond (12-15, 6-8 A-10) was held to just 36 percent shooting, while George Washington (19-8, 10-4 A-10) went 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Spiders 51-31.
Following King, freshman Janelle Hubbard scored 14 points, while redshirt-junior Genevieve Okoro brought down a team-high nine boards.
The Spiders came out strong in the first 10 minutes of play. The two teams battled and traded leads but the Colonials went on an 11-2 run over a six-minute span that eventually led to the 40-24 deficit at halftime.
Hubbard's three in the final 10 second of play allowed the Spiders to come as close as 14 points in the second half.
Richmond will return to the court Wednesday, Feb. 26 when it hosts city-rival VCU at 7 p.m. for the final home contest of the season.
