
Allen's Career Night Leads Spiders Over La Salle

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Terry Allen scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Richmond men's basketball team to a 62-49 victory over La Salle on Saturday in a sold out Robins Center.
Richmond improved to 18-9 overall and 8-4 in the Atlantic 10, moving into a four-way tie for third-place with UMass and VCU. Saint Joseph's (9-3) has a one game lead for second place.
"I thought our defense was tremendous right from the beginning," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "We certainly struggled on offense in the first half, but I thought our defense was really tough and gritty throughout the game. In the second half we excecuted really well. Terry Allen was great tonight."
Allen made 9-of-16 field goals, including both three-point attempts, and grabbed nine rebounds as he scored in double-figures for his second-straight double-figure scoring game and his seventh in the last 11 games. He also had three assists and a steal in 30 minutes.
Junior Kendall Anthony scored 14 points for his 19th-straight double-figure scoring game.
Freshman ShawnDre' Jones scored 10 points for his fifth-straighht double-figure scoring game. Jones made 2-of-5 three-pointers and has made 13-of-24 shots from behind the arc in the last five agmes.
The Spiders shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half, but then connected on 63.6 percent (14-of-22) after intermission.
Richmond's defense made it very tough for La Salle (12-14, 4-8 Atlantic 10) to get open shots throughout the game. The Spiders held the La Salle to just 32.7 percent shooting and only for Explorers scored. Tyreek Duren led La Salle with 26 of their 49 points.
It was the third time this season the Spiders have held a team under 50 points and the sixth time Richmond held the opposition under 60.
Richmond hits the road for two games this week, playing at George Mason on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and at Rhode Island on Saturday. The Spiders final home game of the season is on March 6 at 9 p.m. against VCU.
