Spiders Host Penn This Weekend At Pitt Field

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will play a three-game series against the Penn Quakers this weekend at Pitt Field.
The action gets underway on Friday, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. Both Saturday and Sunday's games are slated for 1 p.m. starts. Live stats and live video via SpiderTV will be available for all three games at RichmondSpiders.com.
Scouting the Spiders
The Richmond Spiders come in to the weekend with an overall record of 4-10-1 on the season. This past week, the Spiders played a pair of 2013 NCAA Regional teams, tying Virginia Tech in 10 innings on Tuesday, 10-10, before losing at William & Mary on Wednesday.
Offensively, the Spiders have been playing their best baseball of the season of late, with freshman Kurtis Brown leading the team with a .295 batting average. Sophomore 1B Doug Kraeger has hit a team-best three home runs and has totaled a team-high 13 RBI. Classmate OF Tanner Stanley has also hit three homers and driven in 12 runs on the season.
Redshirt junior LHP Dylan Stoops headlines the Spider pitching staff with his team-best ERA of 1.56. Junior OF/RHP Ryan Cook has struck out a team-high 17 batters and leads the team with two saves.
Scouting the Quakers
The Penn Quakers come to Richmond on a two-game winning streak, having snapped their season-opening losing streak at six games. The 2-6 Quakers swept a doubleheader at Delaware State on Tuesday.
Offensively, the Quakers are hitting .245 as a team with 11 doubles, a home run and 40 RBI. The pitching staff has posted a team ERA of 6.72, totaling 56 strikeouts in 65.2 innings pitched.

After their series with the Quakers this weekend, the Spiders will open up Atlantic 10 conference play at Dayton starting on Friday.
