Spider T&F Begins Outdoor Season At William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Richmond track and field team kicked off the outdoor season at the Tribe Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Janel Francis and senior Kelsey McKenna posted the Spiders' top finishes of the weekend. Overall, Francis secured two first-place finishes, winning the long jump (5.59m) and the 200-meter dash (24.96). McKenna won the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.99 seconds.
The long jump proved to be the most successful event of the meet for Richmond. Following up the first-place finish by Francis, was sophomore Amanda Thatcher, who finished third (5.04m). Senior Ann O'Toole rounded out the success with a fourth-place finish (4.87m). O'toole turned in a solid performance in the shot put as well, taking second (9.82m).
Junior Deborah Fajuyigbe crossed the finish line second in the 200-meter dash (25.26), completing the one-two sweep in the event for the Spiders.
Freshman Sarah Timko turned in the best finish of her young career, taking third in the high jump (1.50m).
The Spiders continue their outdoor season next weekend when they host the annual Fred Hardy Invitational on March 28-39.
