03/25/2014 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond women's lacrosse, winners of three of its last four games, hits the road for an important non-conference contest Wednesday at James Madison, starting at 6 p.m. The Spiders are one week away from starting Atlantic 10 Conference play, with this as the last road test before a home game with Longwood on Sunday to prep for league action.
In last Friday night's home game, Richmond (4-3) took down visiting William & Mary 13-7. The Spiders have held their opponents under double-digit scoring in all four wins, losing only to teams ranked in the Top 10 in the country thus far this season.
Junior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) and sophomore Charlett Stevenson (Darien, Conn.) both set new career highs and the new team season high with four goals each in the win over the Tribe. Richmond reached the 10-goal mark for the third time this season, all wins. Sophomore Brooke Wilson (Ijamsville, Md.) has scored a goal in Richmond's last four games, the longest active point streak on the team.
Dolye and Stevenson lead the team with 13 and 11 goals, respectively. Doyle has also dished out 11 assists to pace the Spiders for a team-leading 24 points, seventh-most in the Atlantic 10 Conference so far in 2014.
JMU (4-5) is receiving votes in the latest IWLCA weekly poll, and is ranked 24 in the Lax Power computer rankings. The Dukes sport the fourth-toughest schedule in the country, with more than half of their games against teams and have claimed wins over a pair of teams ranked in the Top 10. The Dukes were ranked as high as 19 earlier in the season.
Stephanie Finley leads the Dukes with 21 goals s cored, while teammate Emily Rhoads' 11 assists are tops in that column. JMU has lost its last four games, by a combined seven goals. The Richmond game is the second of four-straight home contests on the schedule.
The Spiders' Sunday home contest against Longwood is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
