WLAX Hosts Pair of League Weekend Games

Richmond women's lacrosse hosts a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference games this weekend, with George Mason visiting Robins Stadium Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., and George Washington in town for a Sunday 1 p.m. contest. Admission to Richmond home lacrosse is free.
The Spiders have put together a season-best three-game win streak, including their first two league games last weekend. Richmond enters at 7-4 overall, 2-0 in the A-10. The Spiders have held their last five combined opponents to a 5.2-goal scoring average, while posting an average of 12.5 goals per game in that same stretch. The Spiders have scored more than 10 goals six times, including the last three games, securing victory in all six contests. The Spiders have the second-fewest turnovers per game and have the third-best goals against average per game this season.
Senior Taylor Blazer (Berlin, Md.) has won the last two A-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week awards. In the Sunday home win over La Salle, Blazer set a new career high by winning 10 draws and added four ground balls. In Friday's road win at Saint Joseph's, Blazer caused three turnovers and picked up five ground balls, while winning three more draws. She leads the team with 38 draws won, 30 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers this season. She leads the conference in draw controls per game (3.45) and is fourth in the A-10 with 2.73 ground balls per game and 1.45 caused turnovers per contest.
Junior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) had three goals and six assists in the two A-10 wins for Richmond. She has distributed 24 assists this season, with her 2.18 assists per game sitting third in the league to this point. Her total places her in a tie for 10th at the school for assists in a single season. She is currently fifth in points in the league, adding in her 18 goals. Her 63 career assists are just five away from fifth at the school for career helpers.
Senior Hayley Ross (Annapolis, Md.) scored three goals in both the Friday and Sunday wins for the Spiders. Her 18 goals are tied for second-most on the team so far this season.
George Mason enters with a 7-4 record, 1-1 in the A-10. Following a six-game win streak, the Patriots have lost two of the last three, including a 21-13 loss at Duquesne on Sunday. Rachel Obergon leads the league in shots taken, with 73 and hjer 2.55 goals per game are fourth in the league stats. Three Patriots have scored 20 or more goals, with the team scoring average just over 11 per contest.
George Washington sits at 5-6 overall, 1-1 in the A-10. The Colonials will visit Massachusetts before heading to Robins Stadium to finish the weekend. GW has the fewest turnovers in the league this season, is second in draw controls and third in the league in goals, assists and points per game. Jamie Bumgardner leads the league with 29 assists and 52 points, fourth in the NCAA in assists per game and 10th in the NCAA in points per game.
The Spiders will finish off the four-game home stand next weekend with a Saturday home game against 10th-ranked Massachusetts.
