04/24/2014 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond women's lacrosse finishes the regular season with a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference road games this weekend. The Spiders play at Duquesne Friday at 4 p.m. before the season finale Sunday at noon at St. Bonaventure.
The Spiders enter the final weekend at 9-5, with a 4-1 record in their five league games so far. Richmond is ninth in the country in scoring defense, giving up under eight goals per game this season. Offensively, Richmond is averaging just over 11 goals per contest. The Spiders are 8-0 when scoring 10 goals in a game this season.
Duquesne is 13-2 on the season, 4-1 in the league. The lone league loss for the Dukes came at the hands of La Salle. The game between Richmond and Duquesne will break the tie for second place in the league standings and likely determine the second seed in the tournament. Duquesne has the league's highest scoring average at 15.1 goals per game, but has the top two defenses (Richmond and Massachusetts) left to contend with this weekend. The Dukes have allowed 7.95 goals per game, third best in the league so far this year.
St. Bonaventure has not won this season (0-12, 0-5 A-10). The Bonnies lead the conference in saves per game, at 10.64, and are fifth in save percentage, at 42.5 percent.
Richmond has four players with 20 or more goals, three more with 10 or more for a balanced attack. Spiders junior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) has an even two assists per game, third-best in the league stats. Her next assist will put her in both the Top Five for a single season and career (with 68) at Richmond.
Duquesne's Amanda Kidder is tied for the league lead with 3.6 goals per game, while Caitlin Prince's 2.67 goals per game are third, with Haley Marafioti tying for fourth at 2.46 goals per game. The Dukes have four players in the Top 10 in goals average in the league. Lib Lowry tops Duquesne's assist chart, netting 1.5 assists per game, fifth-best in the conference.
St. Bonaventure's LeighAnn Stauffer comes into the weekend averaging 2.09 goals per game, ninth-best in the A-10. Mikayla Place leads the Bonnies in assists, at 0.91 per contest for ninth place in the league.
The Spiders need a win to guarantee a spot in next weekend's A-10 Championships, hosted by Richmond at Robins Stadium. Two wins would put the Spiders in no worse than the two-seed for the championships, which take place next Friday and Sunday, May 2 and 4, with action starting at 1 p.m. on both days.
