WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- The Spiders wrapped up an extremely competitive weekend at the Colonial Relays with a new school record in the 4x200m relay.
The Richmond 4x200m relay comprised of Mary Allen, Amber Young, Deborah Fajuyigbe, and Janel Francis broke the program record with a time of 1:39.47, shattering the previous time by almost six seconds. The record time was good enough to earn the Spiders a second-place finish in the event.
Continuing a weekend of Spider excellence on the track, Jill Prentice, Tara Hanley, and Kelly Bailey met up in the 3000m run. Prentice led the way taking fourth-place (9:58.97), but was followed close by Hanley and Bailey who took 20th (10:18.28) and 22nd (10:20.10).
Schinksi continued her dominance in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing third with a time of 11:05.16.
The Spiders had solid performances in multiple field events throughout the weekend. In the long jump, Janel Francis was able to secure a third-place finish with a distance of 5.63m. Amanda Thatcher took 7th on her way to a new personal record (5.41m).
Senior Kelsey McKenna was able to claim fourth (1.50m) in the high jump, leading the group of three Spiders performing well in the event. Finishing 13th (1.45) was freshman Sarah Timko. Ann O'Toole closed out the competition in the high jump with a jump of 1.40m, which earned her 20th.
Senior Ryan Lee stepped to the line in the 10,000M and after covering the
opening 5K in 15:00 he pushed on to place 6th in the event with a time of 30:49.53. It marked Lee's second top 10 finish in two weeks, coupled with his performance in the inaugural Collegiate Running Association National 10K Road Championship held as part of the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K in Richmond on March 29.
The Spiders will be back in action up in Northern Virginia next weekend at the Mason Invitational, starting on Friday April 13.
