Women's Lacrosse Starts A-10 Tournament At 1 PM

The Richmond women's lacrosse program opens the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament at home Friday in the opening semifinal against La Salle at 1 p.m. The Spiders and Explorers finished with identical 5-2 league marks. Both teams shared second place with Duquesne, but the Spiders goal differential in the three-way tie gave them the nod for the second seed.
Richmond finished 10-6 on the season, finishing the year with a season-best 19 goals and a 19-8 win at St. Bonaventure on Sunday. The Spiders landed four players on the All-Conference Teams, with senior Taylor Blazer (Berlin, Md.) earning Defensive Player of the Year honors and a First-Team selection. She was joined on the First-Team by junior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) Blazer led the league with 58 draw controls, sitting just seven shy of the school career mark. Doyle led the Spiders with 31 assists, tying her own single-season high and sitting just six from the school record for a season.
La Salle (11-5) has won five straight since losing to Richmond on April 6. The Spiders handed the Explorers the 15-6 result, holding La Salle to their lowest goal total of the season. The Explorers are led by their youth, with Toni Massetti and Allee Ilgenfritz combining for 41 goals. Rookie goalie Gabby Antonelli and is third in the league with an 8.24 goals against average.
The winner faces the winner of the 3:30 p.m. semifinal between top seed Massachusetts and fourth-seeded Duquesne. The Championship game will be at 1 p.m. Sunday and all games are streamed on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network for free.
Tickets are six dollars for a single day, $10 for a tournament pass. Children 16 and under get in for four dollars and a groups can buy three-dollar passes in advance by contacting the Spiders Ticket Office or the Atlantic 10. Students from Atlantic 10 member schools get in free with their school ID. All three games will be streamed on the Atlantic 10 Network, which is available at Atlantic10.com.
