The Richmond Spiders women's lacrosse team takes full advantage of resources that the University of Richmond provides during their summer months by studying or taking internships abroad, or staying in the U.S. to take classes and gain work experience. Throughout the next several weeks the squad will be sharing their summer adventures to let you know what they have been up to this summer.
This is the next in our Summer Spider Series detailing some of our Spiders' summer adventures. Follow these posts to learn more about a few Spiders and what they have been up to this summer!

Summer Spider Series: Rising junior Michaela Aymong, a cognitive science major and education minor, was selected to participate in “Summer Study Abroad in the 'Other Europe': Prague, Poland, Budapest,” a program offered through the University of Richmond. Michaela is taking two classes abroad for UR credit, and traveling with the class to Wroclaw and Warsaw (Poland), Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary) and Bratislava (Slovakia), then spending the last two weeks in Prague. Hear more about Michaela's experience in her own words below…

MA: For the past few weeks, I have been traveling around Eastern Europe. The program that
I have been selected for is based out of Prague, Czech Republic, but we also travel to other cities on the trip. I love it over here! It's really fun and there is always something to do. I've been able to visit all the tourist attractions, including castles, the opera, the lock bridge and the John Lennon wall. The best part about visiting these sites is that every place has such rich history to it-- I am able to learn through immersion. In addition to the hands on experience we get travelling, we also have a sit down class Monday through Thursday where we talk about the literature and history behind Eastern European countries and how each city's history is connected to the ones around them.
While in Prague, we also decided to get away from the tourists by attending a UC Sparta Football game! Little did we know that this was their last game, which gave Sparta first place in their league. It was such an amazing experience, we even rushed the field at the end of the game! The fans were going wild and so entertaining that we stayed there long after the game ended, singing cheers and holding up Sparta scarves as if we were locals.
It's been an amazing time and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to study abroad. The whole trip has been interesting and it is impossible to get tired of such a beautiful city. This is my first experience traveling abroad without my family and it has inspired me to keep traveling to learn more about the world. Going out of my comfort zone this summer in Eastern Europe is definitely an experience I will never forget.
