UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond women's tennis team was named to the 2014 ITA All-Academic Team, while nine Spiders received ITA Scholar Athlete recognition.
“I have tremendous respect for our team's ability to excel academically at this record level,” commented Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink. “It is truly phenomenal. As DI athletes, the demands on their time are high, but I believe the work ethic and high standards we set for practice and competition actually helps them excel in the classroom.”
The Spiders notched a program-best 3.67 team GPA this year, as Nil Horoz, Kelsey Williams, Brittany Boys, Katya Salas, Melissa Kandinata, Anna Abadias Morales, Denny Lamachia, Emily Gitman and Elizabeth Sims were all named Scholar Athletes.
“This team loves challenges and takes pride in everything they do. They are truly an amazing group,” noted Wesselink.
Richmond was just one of three school to have nine or more student-athletes named ITA Scholar Athletes.
