JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – University of Richmond rising senior men's golfer Danny Pizetoski (Davidson, N.C.) concluded a strong two-day performance at the 114th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Tuesday.
After two days of stroke play, Pizetoski finished with a four-over par (74-73 – 147) performance on the two courses of the Athletic Club. Pizetoski was just two strokes off the cut, which identified the top 64 golfers that advanced to the match play rounds.
"The courses were remarkable and pretty difficult," Pizetoski said. "I was hitting the ball pretty well, but just needed a few more putts to fall. It was frustrating that I came within two strokes of making the match play, but overall it was a great experience and the atmosphere was the closest to a professional tournament I've played in."
At the Highlands Course on Monday, he shot a three-over 74. On Tuesday, Pizetoski finished just one stroke over par on the Riverside Course, shooting 73.
“We are extremely proud of Danny's efforts this summer,” men's golf head coach Adam Decker. “He performed really well at the U.S. Amateur and nearly made the cut. I'm really excited about what he has in store for this fall.”
Earlier this summer, Pizetoski qualified for the U.S. Amateur after tying for medalist honors at the Section Qualifying at the Monroe Country Club in July. He shot nine-under par (69-66 – 135) after a six-under final round on Tuesday, July 8.
His U.S. Amateur performance marked the conclusion of a fantastic junior season at UR, where Pizetoski was the medalist at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships, the first individual A-10 Conference champion in program history, earning an individual berth to the NCAA Regionals. He represented the Spiders at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois in mid-May. He also became the first Spider to win three tournaments in a school year.
