UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – This summer, three University of Richmond Spider student-athletes helped lead their respective summer baseball teams to league championships.
“I'm proud of these guys,” Richmond head coach Tracy Woodson said. “They challenged themselves by playing in three of the most competitive summer leagues in the country – and they were successful. We want our players to have a winning mentality and expect to win championships.”
For the second-straight summer, RHP Ryan Cook helped lead the Peninsula Pilots to the Petit Cup Championship in the Coastal Plains League. This year, the rising senior posted a 2.08 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts.
Out west, rising junior RHP Peter Bayer helped the Los Angeles Brewers defeat the Neptune Beach Pearl to win their second-consecutive California Collegiate League championship. On the summer, Bayer posted a record of 3-0 to go with two saves, a 2.07 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched.
In the Northwoods League, incoming transfer OF Michael Morman helped guide the Lakeshore Chinooks to their first championship in league history. Morman played in 57 games for the Chinooks, ending the season with a .247 average, 11 doubles, four triples, two home runs and nine stolen bases.
