Postgame Quotes – No. 7/8 New Hampshire 29, No. 17/18 Richmond 26
“I am very disappointed. I really have to commend Sean [Goldrich] and New Hampshire for the way they finished the game. It was really impressive they way they were able to complete the game on that last drive. The game was back and forth. I had a sense that it would be a little lower scoring than what most people might have thought. Both defenses rose up to the occasion at times in the game. I think the biggest thing for us was the inability to take away the ball. It was just embarrassing. The big turnover down in the red zone was a very critical play in the first half. Once again, our guys came out of the locker room and in the third quarter I thought we were really charged up and ready to go out there and play. We kind of got ourselves back into the lead and started feeling like we were taking control of the football game. Down that last stretch on their last drive was just really impressive. We knew they had two quarterbacks. It wasn't like it was some guy coming off the bench – he beat us two years ago. We were just playing behind that whole drive and no one really stepped up to make a play and change the outcome to our favor. I still feel like we have a really good football team, but I am very disappointed in the outcome.”
-- Richmond head coach Danny Rocco Opening Statement
“ I have a lot of respect for Danny [Rocco]. We haven't played them in the last year and we have seen the last two games. They execute, Strauss is a great quarterback and Rocco comes in and does what he does. Defensively, I just know they have gotten better in the way that they are playing. With that being said, I thought our kids played with a lot of resiliency. We came together and the defense held them to a couple field goals, took it away at the two-yard line and our offense goes out and goes for 90 something. And that last drive, when Andy goes in the game, not anybody in our program or on that sideline didn't think it was going to happen. We see it day-to-day in practice that we have two good quarterbacks. I couldn't be more proud of this kid [Andy Vailas].”
