Spider Hockey Falls To No. 12 Wake Forest Sunday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond field hockey team fell to No. 12 Wake Forest, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field. With the loss, the Spiders moved to 4-4 on the season, while Wake Forest improved to 5-3 on the year.
The Demon Deacons, who are the third nationally ranked opponent for the Spiders this season, notched two goals in each half that secured the contest.
Richmond was just outshot, 10-8, while the two teams were even with six corners. Sophomore Kelly Quinn led the Spiders with three shots and one on goal, while junior Amy Cooke followed with two shots and one on goal.
The Spiders created four opportunities in each half, but Wake Forest's defense remained strong. Goalkeeper Valerie Dahmen notched the win for the Deacons, while Caroline McCabe played all 70 minutes in the cage for the Spiders and made two saves.
The Spiders will return to Crenshaw Field to host 2013 A-10 Champions Massachusetts Friday, Sept. 26 for a 4 p.m. matchup.
