01/16/2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Richmond Swimming and Diving gets one last look at A-10 foes this Saturday, when UR travels to Fordham to battle the host Rams and the La Salle Explorers. The competition begins Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center in The Bronx, New York.
The Spiders are rounding into form heading into the final few weekends before the Atlantic 10 Championships in late February. After a Holiday Break training trip to Florida (swimmers) and Tennessee (divers), the two units got back together for action last Saturday at Virginia Tech.
Senior Meredith Gouger (Cockeysville, Maryland), junior Kelley Yang (Ellicott City, Maryland) and sophomore Rachel DuMez (Front Royal, Virginia / Wakefield Country Day) and freshman Natalie Dowzicky (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) all posted season-best times in their events at the Virginia Tech outing.
On the diving side, sophomore Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) posted the highest scores of any A-10 diver in both the 1m and 3m springboard of the season last Saturday. That meet also saw a career-best score in the 1m by sophomore Mikaela Gekas-Robinson (Woodbury, New Jersey).
The Spiders will host senior day in their final appearance at home next Saturday the 24th against James Madison. Action begins at noon.
