
Wo Men's Basketball Takes It Away At Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Richmond women's basketball team made A-10 newcomer Davidson commit 32 turnovers in the 56-48 victory Wednesday night at the John M. Belk Arena.
From those 32 turnovers Richmond (11-7, 3-2 A-10) forced, the Spiders collected 35 points off of 14 steals. Sophomore Olivia Healy tied her career-high eight steals in the win to lead Richmond. Her previous eight-steal performance came a year ago when the Spiders and Wildcats tipped for the first time ever in Belk Arena.
Healy also added 12 points and six rebounds to her career high. Junior Lauren Tolson led all players with 16 points and two steals. She also went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Redshirt-senior Genevieve Okoro added 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.
Despite shooting 29 percent, Richmond shot 88 percent from the free throw line as it only missed three on the day (21-24). Davidson (5-14, 1-5 A-10) shot 38 percent from the floor and only had three steals.
Richmond struggled offensively in the first half, shooting just 19 percent (6-31). But the Spiders were flawless on the other end as they forced 15 Wildcat turnovers off six steals. Eleven of Richmond's 17 points were off turnovers as the two teams went into halftime with Davidson up 18-17.
Coming out of the half, the Spiders turned it up offensively and shot 42.3 percent from the field and went 17-for-20 from the free throw line. Okoro and Tolson each tallied 11 points in the final 20 minutes of play.
The Spiders added eight steals in the second half and forced 17 Davidson turnovers that turned into 24 points for Richmond.
Down by 13 (34-21) with 12:53 to go, the Spiders went on an 18-5 run over a span of six minutes to tie the score for the fourth time at 39-39. In those six minutes, Richmond recorded four steals with three coming from Healy.
The Spiders will return home to host the UMass Minutewomen Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m.
