
Women's Basketball Falls To Dayton On Dream Big Day

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Despite three Spiders in double figures, the Richmond women's basketball team fell to the Dayton Flyers, 76-62, Wednesday afternoon in front of a crowd of 763 for Dream Big Day at the Robins Center.
Sophomore Janelle Hubbard led the Spider trio with 17 points and two steals, while sophomore Olivia Healy hit a season-high 16 points, four assists and five rebounds. Junior Lauren Tolson followed with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Richmond shot a higher field goal percentage as it went 22-for-57 for 38 percent, while knocking down eight three-pointers, compared to Dayton's 36 percent from the floor and four treys.
Although, the Flyers went 28-for-35 from the free throw line, while the Spiders only hit 10-of-21 for a 48 percent on the day. Dayton outrebounded Richmond, 50-36, including 19 second-chance possessions.
The two teams were back and forth during the first 20 minutes. Richmond led by as many as three with 13:05 left in the first for its largest lead of the game, but Dayton went into halftime with the 36-29 advantage.
Dayton pulled away after Hubbard hit a three-pointer with 15:08 to make it a one-point ball game with a 7-0 run to secure the contest. Richmond cut the lead to five with 11:11 to go, but the Flyers held on for the win.
The Spiders will hit the road Friday, Jan. 30 when they travel to Rhode Island for a 7 p.m. tip.
