Behind The Web - Johansson Combines Field Hockey And Singing
10/01/2015 | Field Hockey
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond field hockey junior Emma Johansson grew up in a musical family. Both of her parents are involved with the musical programs in her hometown church and communities, and naturally she was as well.
Johansson also picked up a love for field hockey, the sport that brought her to the University of Richmond. She has already scored a goal this season for the Spiders, who are in first place in the always-tough Atlantic 10.
What makes her unique is the balance that she now strikes between involvement in Division I athletics and the arts on campus, two lifestyles and pursuits that can seem all-encompassing. She sings in the women's chorale and also participates in a band with several classmates.
On some days, she goes straight to chorale practice with her Spider field hockey jersey still on. Combine that with the strong academic component of the University of Richmond and Johansson fulfills the "Platonic Ideal," according to Chorale Director David Pedersen.
