10/01/2015 | Field Hockey
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond's conference game against VCU, scheduled for Friday evening at Crenshaw Field, has been postponed due to a threat of strong storms and precipitation accumulation in the Richmond area.
A makeup date for the game will be announced at a later date. UR is still scheduled to play at No. 4 Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Spiders (5-5, 2-0) went 1-1 last weekend out of conference, downing William & Mary, 2-0, on Friday night before falling to No. 12 Delaware, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.
Katrina Balatgek scored the two goals in UR's win against the Tribe, while Kelly Quinn and Avery Safford each scored off penalty corners against the nationally-ranked Blue Hens.
Richmond has played one of the toughest schedules in the country, with Sunday's game against the fourth-ranked Cavaliers being the sixth ranked opponent for the Spiders this season. UR enters the weekend at No. 18 in the RPI.
The Cavaliers (8-1, 2-1) started the season strong with eight-straight wins before losing last week to Syracuse on the road. UVA averages 3.67 goals per game while holding opponents to a .172 shot percentage. Tara Vittese has scored seven goals to go with five assists. She ranks second in the ACC with 2.11 points per contest.
