Nationally-ranked teams. State rivals. Conference rivals. ESPN College Gameday. All of that will be part of this year's Richmond-JMU showdown, and a focus of Tuesday's Spider Sportsline with head football coach Danny Rocco. The popular radio show airs live from Outback Steakhouse, 7917 W. Broad Street, from noon-1pm on ESPN 950, SPORTS FM 100.5, RichmondSpiders.com and ESPN950am.com.
Fans, alums and corporate partners are encouraged to attend, enjoy lunch, and talk Spider and college football. Listeners can call-in during the program at 804-622-0950 or toll free 877-994-4950. Emails can be sent anytime to spidersportsline@richmond.edu and will be read on-the-air.
ESPN's Todd McShay, a frequent contributor on College Gameday, and a quarterback on the Spider football team in 1995, will join Tuesday's show live on the phone. First-year radio analyst and former Spider captain and all-conference standout Chris Anderson, a teammate of McShay's, will make his initial Outback appearance.
Junior captain and linebacker Omar Howard is this week's special player guest. Howard tied a career-high with 18 tackles and also recovered a fumble in Saturday's win at Rhode Island.
The No. 11/12 Spiders are 5-1, 3-0 and have won five in a row, with their best conference start since 2009. Richmond is coming off an impressive 37-12 thrashing at Rhode Island, a game that saw quarterback Kyle Lauletta set a career mark for passing yards (312) and wide receiver Reggie Diggs establish a career record for receiving yards (142).
No. 3/4 JMU is 7-0, 4-0 following a 51-0 triumph at Elon. Kickoff at Bridgeforth Stadium is set for Saturday at 3:30pm. The game will be televised by Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus.
Again this season, Spider Club members can register at Outback during the program by showing their 2015-16 Spider Club membership card to win a Spider Fan Pack of great prizes at the end of the season. Chances of winning increase by attending and registering each week.
New this season, a live video webcast of the show will be available on the Spider Athletics YouTube page. A video archive of each week's show will be posted on the same page and each show will also be archived for audio playback in ESPN 950's Audio Vault.
The Spider Sportsline with Coach Rocco will air live from Outback, 7917 W. Broad St., every Tuesday during the college football season. Outback Steakhouse, 7917 W. Broad Street, is open for lunch seven days a week at 11 a.m.
There are four other conveniently-located Outback restaurants throughout the area – in Richmond off Huguenot Road; in Colonial Heights off S. Park Circle; in Mechanicsville off Bell Creek Road and in Midlothian off Chital Drive.
