UR Concludes Home Regular Season With VCU
10/27/2015 | Field Hockey
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond field hockey will finish up the home portion of the regular season schedule on Wednesday with a game against crosstown rival VCU at 5 p.m. The game was rescheduled from a month ago due to bad weather.
The Spiders (9-8, 5-1) will look to preserve their first-place standing in the Atlantic 10 with a game against VCU (5-11, 2-4) who is fighting for a chance to go to the Atlantic 10 tournament.
UR picked up a big 4-1 win over St. Francis (Pa.) last Friday to overtake Davidson in the conference standings. Despite a 2-0 loss to No. 14 Boston College on Sunday, Richmond still has a half-game lead for first place.
The Spiders are the reigning Atlantic 10 tournament champions after winning the title at home last year. However, with two conference games remaining, UR will look to capture its first A-10 regular season title since 2012.
13 different players have scored goals for Richmond after freshman Thalia Williamson tallied her first two goals of the season last Friday. Kelly Quinn continues to lead the squad with seven goals, while Avery Safford has a team-best eight assists.
VCU has lost five of its last six games to slide to the bottom of the A-10 race. The Rams average 1.6 goals per game, led by Emily McNamara's eight goals and five assists. Taleah Scott leads the team with six assists.
The game will be live streamed through the Atlantic 10 Network and live stats will be available here.
