NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- Richmond junior Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Women's Performer of the Week by the league office Tuesday. This was her second award of the young season.
Chiulli led the Spider divers to a first-ever win over Clemson (20-18) and a tie against East Carolina (19-19) in a diving-only, double-dual meet at the Greensboro Aquatics Center Saturday.
Chiulli had the top score of all divers, at 263.20, less than two points from the NCAA Zones qualifying standard in the 1m springboard. She finished second to ECU's Ashley Sams on the 3m springboard. Chiulli posted a 280.40, which was over the Zone qualifying standard. She was the top scorer in the meet versus Clemson.
The defending Most Outstanding Diver of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, her scores in both events were the best of the week by any A-10 diver.
Richmond will compete as a whole a week from Thursday, when they compete at the three-day Patriot Invite, hosted by George Mason.
