
Field Hockey Announces New Signees

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond field hockey coach Gina Lucido has announced five new Class of 2016 signees in Becky Carter, Amanda DaSilva, Kaitlyn DaSilva, Abby Lyons and Elise Zwicklbauer.
"The 2016 class of Spiders is strongly balanced in positional depth and talent," Lucido said. "These new Spiders have been key momentum players for their programs and they usher in a class loaded with competitors. I believe these women will charge towards the high call of pursuing national prominence. They are women of integrity and will deepen our unique team culture quickly."
A defender from Bainbridge, Pa., Becky Carter was a four-year starter at Elizabethtown Area High School. She was a first team LL League All Star in 2014 and 2015 and honorable mention in 2013. She was the 2014 Defensive MVP, and also captained her high school team in her senior year.
Carter played club field hockey with Sutters Bridage, finishing in second place in 2013 and second place in 2014.
Along with playing field hockey, Carter also played softball in high school and served on the student council.
Amanda DaSilva comes to Richmond from New Vernon, N.J., where she has played as a defender for Madison High School. She will be coming to UR along with her sister, Kaitlyn, as the pair join the Spider program.
Amanda was a three-year starter and two-time first team All-Conference player. Last year, she was first team All-State and the Mugs Media Player of the Year. She also won the team's MVP award as a junior and the Varsity Rookie Award as a sophomore. She tallied five goal line saves in 2014 and seven in 2015.
She helped lead Madison to the NJ State North Group II Championship title in 2015 and 2014. They also won the NJSIAA North I Group II Sectional Championships in 2014 and 2015. Madison was Morris County Champions in all three years that DaSilva played varsity.
Amanda also played lacrosse in high school, earning first team All-Conference honors last year.
Kaitlyn DaSilva, sister of Amanda, will join the Spiders as the offensive-minded member of the DaSilva family from New Vernon, N.J. She also went to Madison High School.
She was first team All-Conference for the last three years, as well as first team All-County. She earned a spot on the first team All-NJ Daily Record team, and was part of the NJAC All-Academic team last year. She was named the Morris County Tournament Most Valuable Offensive Player Award in her junior year.
Along with her sister, she helped lead Madison to the NJ State North Group II Championship title in 2015 and 2014. They also won the NJSIAA North I Group II Sectional Championships in 2014 and 2015.
Kaitlyn also played lacrosse in the spring, earning first team All-League honors last year.
Abby Lyons comes to Richmond as a midfielder from Brookfield, Wisc., where she went to Divine Savior Holy Angels High School.
Lyons was a four-year starter and first team All-State selection in 2015. She was second team All-State in 2014. Lyons was a 2015 team captain and team MVP. This year, she led her squad to a third-place finish in the state with a record of 16-5-1. She posted a team-best 16 goals and 19 assists in 2015.
She helped lead her club team to a medal at the Disney Showcase, and they were the first club from Wisconsin to participate in the Regional Club Championship. They also went to the National Indoor Qualifiers and ranked 33rd in the country.
Lyons also played soccer in high school where she was a team captain.
Elise Zwicklbauer comes to Richmond from Burnt Hills, N.Y. at Burnt Hills High School.
A midfielder, she helped lead her team to a 14-2 record in 2015, including a state runner-up finish, a thrilling game in which she scored the first goal. She earned All-NY State honors this year and was the team MVP. She was also named the Time Warner Cable 2015 Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Zwicklbauer was the team's leading scorer in both 2014 and 2015, and she scored the most total points in 2013.
She competed for ADK in club ball, helping them to the Wicked Smart League championship in 2014 and 2015.
