On The Line
The Spiders can clinch the outright automatic qualifier with a win and a Villanova loss to James Madison in Harrisonburg. That game will also kick off at Noon on Saturday. A Villanova win will send the tiebreaker between Richmond, Villanova and William & Mary to records against common opponents. The only common opponent each program has is James Madison and all three would be 1-0 opposite the Dukes. The tiebreaker and automatic bid to the playoffs then goes to the team with the highest Sagarin "ELO_CHESS" rating. More information about what the Sagarin "ELO_Chess" rating is can be found HERE. The rating cannot be determined until all of the FBS and FCS games this weekend are completed.
Senior Day
Before the game the Spiders will honor 14 seniors with a special ceremony. Jacobi Green, Seth Fisher, Dominique Miller, Ayo Ogunniyi, Trevor Jones, Reggie Diggs, Tim Thomas, David Herlocker, Nick Ritcher, Kieno Jones, Caleb High, Josh Hess, Fernando Gaston and Devin Cook will all be honored before their last regular season home game at Robins Stadium.
Last Time Out
The No. 9/12 Spiders (7-3, 5-2 CAA) took a late lead at Villanova (6-4, 5-2) but a blocked extra-point proved costly as the last minute drive and score from the Wildcats turned out to be a game-winner rather than a try to tie, 21-20.
National Ranking Streak
The Spiders dropped five spots in the STATS FCS Poll to 14th, and four spots in the FCS Coaches Poll to 16th this week. The recognition marks the 23rd consecutive week dating back to last season that the Spiders have been ranked nationally. Richmond was included in at least one of the major polls each week during the 2014 campaign, reaching as high as No. 8.
Opening Strong
In five of the last seven games, Richmond has come out with a touchdown drive on its' first possession of the game. Those scoring drives have also come off the opening possession of the game for either side. The Spiders have accomplished the feat in the last four straight games.
Getting Picky
Richmond has 13 interceptions in the last six games, and is tied for the lead in the CAA with 14 interceptions overall. Richmond is second in the CAA with a plus six turnover margin.
Catching Up
Richmond wide receivers Brian Brown (119.9) and Reggie Diggs (73.2) are first and third in the CAA in receiving yards per game. Brown hauled in a career-high 204 yards in the matchup with JMU and is ninth in the nation averaging 20.8 yards per catch. Diggs has recorded over 100 yards receiving in two of the last four games, with a career high 142 yards against Rhode Island and 128 yards against JMU. The duo went each went over 100 yards against James Madison and last accomplished the feat against Coastal Carolina in the 2014 playoffs.
