Women's Lacrosse Schedule Has Old And New In 2016
11/19/2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond women's lacrosse will face a myriad of teams from the region and from up and down the East Coast as head coach Allison Kwolek unveiled her program's 2016 slate.
Included on the schedule is first-time program VCU, and the Spiders will be the first A-10 team they ever face when the league schedule opens for the two teams on Friday, April 1 at 5 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
“We are excited about the layout of our schedule,” said Kwolek. “With the addition of two new teams and familiar faces such as Virginia and JMU, we feel that our non-conference play will prepare us for a competitive A-10 schedule.”
The Spiders open with home games in the first two Saturdays, with second-year program Mercer coming to Robins Stadium to start the season on February 13 before Liberty visits on February 20.
Then a four-game road swing over nearly a month faces the Spiders, with games at Virginia, Old Dominion, American and James Madison through mid-March.
Richmond is then home for four games over three weeks, including the start of A-10 play. The Spiders play on a pair of consecutive Wednesdays, against Yale (March 16) and William & Mary (March 23), before the VCU game and a home date with George Mason (April 3) to open the conference ledger.
A balanced league schedule will also feature home games with George Washington (April 15), Massachusetts (April 22) and La Salle (April 24) to finish the home slate.
The Spiders will also play road A-10 games at Saint Joseph's (April 8) and Duquesne (April 10), as well as games at Davidson (April 17) and St. Bonaventure (April 30).
The A-10 Tournament, in which the Spiders played in five of the past six championship games, will take place at Duquesne on May 6th and 8th in Pittsburgh.
Last season, Richmond completed back-to-back seasons with 10 or more wins for the first time since 2007-2008.
