Three Spiders Named To VaSID All-State Field Hockey Teams
12/18/2015 | Field Hockey
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond senior Amy Cooke added to her career resume on Friday as she was named to the Field Hockey VaSID All-State First Team. Cooke was joined by junior Kelly Quinn and freshman Emily Braunewell, who were named to the All-State Second Team.
Earlier this month, Cooke was named an NFHCA Third Team All-American and First Team All-District honoree. She was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and tabbed All-Atlantic 10 First Team at the end of the regular season.
The Spider back was named Atlantic 10 All-Tournament after her goal against Davidson propelled Richmond into its fifth-straight A-10 tournament title game.
Cooke spearheaded a superb Spider defense that ranked first in the league in scoring margin, goals-against average and shutouts against conference opponents. She finished the season with four goals and two assists as the point of Richmond's penalty corner attack.
Junior Kelly Quinn was also an All-Atlantic 10 First Team honoree this year. The junior forward led Richmond in goals (7) and points scored (17), ranking fifth in league-only stats in points. Her shot percentage of .389 was also a team high as Quinn scored three game-winning goals for the Spiders.
Freshman Emily Braunewell was one of just two goalies honored on the All-State teams. She earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors after a fantastic freshman campaign in goal. She split time with sophomore Amanda Hoyt, but still posted three shutouts and only allowed three total goals against A-10 teams, good for second in the conference. Her 18 saves in a game against No. 4 UVA tied for the most by any A-10 goalie in a game this year.
Cooke has been tabbed All-State in every season as a Spider, while Quinn and Braunewell earned their first All-State nods.
VaSID All-State teams are nominated and voted upon by every Sports Information Director in the state of Virginia.
