UR Swimming & Diving Finishes Semester At GW
12/05/2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Richmond swimming and diving returns to action Saturday morning in a rare dual meet with an Atlantic 10 Conference opponent, taking on George Washington on the D.C. campus, starting at 11 a.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
This meet will be the last event for the Spiders before their annual training trip to Florida after exams and the Holiday Break.
With a new coach in place at GW, the Spiders and Colonials staffs are friendly and decided this would be a great weekend to get in competition in order to avoid a long time between meets. The Spiders last competed in the Patriot Invitational in the middle of November and will compete again on January 2 in Sarasota, Florida.
At this time of the season, swimming coaches are still finding where individuals will fit with the strategies of assigning events for the end-of-the-season Atlantic 10 Championships in late February.
The diving program has started strong, with junior Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) winning nearly every program she has competed in this season, including posting a 310.90 in the 3m event at the Patriot Invitational prelims last month.
Senior Melissa Ross (Warrington, Pennsylvania) won the 200 Fly at the Patriot Invite and senior Kelley Yang (Ellicott City, Maryland) took the 100 Fly in her previous event, against Queens University in Christiansburg, Virginia at the end of October.
There will be 16 events at the dual, and the team will break for exams next week ahead of the Florida trip after Christmas.
