
Women's Basketball Falls At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The Richmond women's basketball team fell to the Dayton Flyers, 79-41, at the UD Arena Wednesday night. Junior Lauren Tolson led the Spiders with 11 points and three steals.
Dayton (18-5, 9-2 A-10) shot 59 percent from the floor with four Flyers in double figures and outscored Richmond (15-9, 7-4 A-10), 44-18, in the paint to secure the victory.
The Spiders were held to just 25 percent from the floor and 17 percent from behind the arc. Dayton forced 16 Spider turnovers off 10 steals that it turned into 23 points, while Richmond forced 22 turnovers off 10 steals for 14 points.
The Flyers got off to a fast start as they shot an impressive 70 percent from the floor. Dayton hit 19-of-27 field goals in the first 20 minutes of play, while holding the Spiders to just eight (8-33 FG, 24%) buckets. Dayton scored 30 of its 47 points in the paint.
Richmond went into halftime, trailing 47-22. Tolson led the Spiders with six points in the first, as the junior was 1-for-4 on the floor and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Hoover led both teams with 10 points and four assists.
Dayton kept the offensive threat going, shooting 48 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point range. Richmond was held to 19 points in the second half as it shot just 25 percent.
Following Tolson, freshman Micaela Parson scored a career-high eight points and brought down four rebounds. Senior Yazmean Burgess led the Spiders with five rebounds.
The Spiders will return home Saturday, Feb. 14 to host the La Salle Explorers at 4 p.m. on Senior Day. Richmond will honor its five seniors: Amber Battle, Liz Brown, Burgess, Keri Soppe and Genevieve Okoro prior to tip.
