Men's Lacrosse Hosts Rutgers Saturday At Noon
02/13/2015 | Men's Lacrosse
RICHMOND -- Richmond men's lacrosse will host the second of five-straight home games on Saturday, when Rutgers makes the trip to Robins Stadium for a noon game.
Both teams are coming off wins in their season openers. The Scarlet Knights won 10-8 at St. John's last Saturday. Christian Trasolini scored four goals in the victory and was named Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week.
The Spiders posted a 9-5 win over visiting Saint Joseph's last Saturday. Redshirt senior Mickey Hofmeister (Williamsburg, Virginia / Jamestown HS) scored three goals in his Richmond debut, after transferring from VMI following his graduation there last year. Sophomore goalie Benny Pugh (Powhatan, Virginia / Woodberry Forest) recorded 15 saves, two shy of his own school record, and was tabbed as the first Southern Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
The Spiders are now 3-0 in games versus an opponent in the second meeting. After losing to Mercer and High Point in the regular season last year, the Spiders beat both teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in May. After losing on the road at Saint Joseph's last season, the Spiders got the win in the rematch last week.
Rutgers took out the Spiders 10-7 last March in New Jersey. The Scarlet Knights won all 19 faceoffs in the contest and never gave up the lead after scoring the first four goals of the contest.
