Wednesday's Richmond-UVa. Game Moved To 3 P.M.
02/17/2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Wednesday's Richmond women's lacrosse home-opening game against No. 7 Virginia has been moved up two hours to 3 p.m. so the Spiders and Cavaliers can take advantage of more sunlight as temperatures in the area will be chilly that day.
The grandstands will be closed for safety reasons, but fans will be allowed to watch the game from Lessing Plaza.
Both teams are 0-1, coming off of losses to ranked opponents in their season-openers. Richmond fell 17-4 at No. 8 Duke last Saturday, while the Cavaliers lost in Kennesaw, Georgia to No. 5 Northwestern 6-5 last Saturday.
The Spiders are coming off an 11-7 season, the most wins for the program since 2007. This year's Spider squad starts the season with two ranked ACC opponents. Richmond will play another home game Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against American University.
A trio of seniors were responsible for scoring UR's four goals last Saturday in Durham, North Carolina. Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) led the Spiders with two goals and an assist, while Richmond got goals from Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, New York) and Bailey Zerr (Denver, Colorado). Doyle's assist gave her 73 for her career, one shy of fourth place for a Spider in her career.
Virginia sophomore Kelly Reese had two goals for the Cavaliers to pace their side in the loss to the Wildcats.
Virginia was able to take care of Richmond 18-9 last season, also the day after a snowstorm moved through Central Virginia. The Cavaliers were ranked ninth at the time of last year's contest.
Live stats will be available at RichmondSpiders.com and live video will be streaming on SpiderTV through the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
