Spider Baseball Begins Series With Holy Cross On Friday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will begin a three-game series with the Holy Cross Crusaders on Friday.
Due to weather in the Richmond area, the three-game set has been moved from Deep Run High School to the campus of University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie in Allendale, S.C.
The series gets underway on Friday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the teams will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Richmond will be the home team for all three, nine-inning games this weekend. Live stats for all three contests will be available on RichmondSpiders.com.

Scouting the Spiders
Richmond (0-2) began the 2015 season last weekend in Wilmington, N.C. at the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach. Richmond dropped its season opener to UNCW, 7-2, before falling to Kentucky, 10-1. The Spiders' scheduled game against Ball State last Sunday was canceled due to cold temperatures.
Offensively, a trio of Spiders had a pair of hits last weekend – INF Tyler Beckwith, OF Jansen Fraser and INF Doug Kraeger. Beckwith leads the team with a pair of RBIs, while Fraser leads the squad with a .286 batting average.
On the mound, the bullpen was very solid last weekend for UR, led by RHP Dan Martinson. The junior tossed two scoreless inning of relief against UNCW, striking out a pair. RHP James Lively and RHP Ray Harron each pitched one scoreless inning out of the pen as well.
Scouting the Crusaders
The Holy Cross Crusaders enter this weekend's series with the Spiders with an 0-3 record after losing all three at No. 23 Texas A&M last weekend. After dropping the season opener, 19-2, Holy Cross battled the Aggies in game two before falling 16-11. The Crusaders fell in the finale, 6-1.
Before the season, Holy Cross was picked to finish fifth out of six in the Patriot league in a poll conducted of the league's coaches and sports information directors. INF Anthony Critelli and OF Evan Ocello were each named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team.

The Richmond Spiders will host the Norfolk State Spartans at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights, Va. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
