Richmond women's lacrosse finishes up a week of home games with a Saturday morning tilt against American, with the opening draw scheduled for 11 a.m. at Robins Stadium.
The Spiders (0-2) have dropped their opening games to teams ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. Last season, five of Richmond's six total losses came at the hands of ranked opponents, but the Spiders finished 11-1 against the rest of their schedule.
The two teams met last February 27 in Washington, D.C. and the Spiders came away with a 13-4 victory, the first of three times Richmond held an opponent to four goals for the season.
A Spider has scored a pair of goals in both of the opening games of the season. Senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) scored a pair of goals an added an assist in the season-opening loss at No. 8 Duke. Junior Charlett Stevenson (Darien, Connecticut) found the cage twice in Wednesday's home-opening loss to No. 7 Virginia.
In both games, Doyle logged an assist, giving her 74 for her career, putting her in a tie for fourth-place in the all-time ledger at UR. She has Richmond's only two assists of the season to this point.
Six different Spiders have scored a goal, with Doyle's three leading the way. The list of goal scorers is a familiar one, save for the first career goal from freshman Kim Egizi (Westwood, Massachusetts) logged on Wednesday.
Senior goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Massachusetts) has played well despite the results. She had logged 22 saves in the two games, stopping an array of quality shots in front of the net.
American (1-1) has scored double-digit goals in both of its opening games, but has also allowed 10-plus goals in those contests. The Eagles defeated Wagner 16-12 to open the season last Saturday and lost in triple-overtime 13-12 to Saint Joseph's on Wednesday.
Madison Hoon has eight goals this young season, with teammate Jessica Wojciechowski scoring seven goals. Goalie Rose Redfoot has allowed 25 goals and made 16 saves.
Richmond's next four opponents after Saturday will be in-state foes before a road trip to Oregon in mid-March.
