UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond head football coach Danny Rocco announced the hiring of former NFL standout and Virginia Cavalier Clint Sintim as Spider football's assistant linebackers and defensive line coach, Wednesday.
“We are very excited to announce the addition of Clint Sintim to our staff,” commented Rocco. “I have known Clint since his high school days, as I was involved in recruiting him out of Garfield High School to the University of Virginia. I also had the privilege of coaching Clint during his first two seasons at UVa.”
Sintim joins the Richmond staff after spending this past season with the Cavaliers, his alma mater, as a graduate assistant following a three-year NFL career with the New York Giants.
“Clint's playing experiences at UVa and in the NFL has helped develop his talents and skill set,” added Rocco. “Since Clint's retirement from the NFL he has remained in contact with me in an effort to help facilitate his coaching career. I have been very impressed with his commitment and sacrifice to enter into the coaching profession. He will be a huge asset to our program and he will enjoy an outstanding career in coaching.”
Leading the nation in linebacker sacks in 2008 with 11.0, Sintim was the New York Giants' second-round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Giants and was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI Championship team.
After his NFL playing career, Sintim spent the 2014 season with the West Alabama Tigers as the outside linebackers coach and assisted with the special teams as part of the National Football League Players Association Coaching Internship Program.
Sintim was a four-year letterwinner at linebacker for UVa and a team captain. A freshman All-American in 2005, Sintim earned ACC Defensive Freshman of the Year honors and by 2007, he was a first-team All-ACC performer who was third on the team with 77 tackles and second on the team with 9.0 sacks.
The Woodbridge, Va., native graduated from the University of Virginia in 2009 with a degree in anthropology.
“I am so excited for this opportunity to come to Richmond,” said Sintim. “To come to an University with this much prestige academically and to coach quality football is exciting. I would definitely like to thank Coach Rocco for letting me join his staff. Prior to coming here I was at the University of Virginia as a graduate assistant, so I was just getting my feet wet as far as coaching and for him to give me the opportunity to further my coaching career is really a blessing.”
Along with the addition of Sintim, Rocco has also realigned some members of his coaching staff. Offensive Coordinator Steed Lobotzke, who joined the Spiders in January, will coach the tight ends, while Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Charlie Fisher was moved from wide receivers coach to quarterbacks.
Moving from tight ends to wide receivers, Fontel Mines also gained a new title as Director of High School Relations.
After coaching the outside linebackers for the past three seasons, Manny Rojas will now oversee the entire linebacker corps. A breakdown of the current staff with titles are listed below:
