It's been a good year to be Allison Kwolek.
Last May, Kwolek, the head coach of the Richmond women's lacrosse program, led the Spiders to 11 wins, the most since 2007. She got Richmond back into the championship game of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament in her second season as head coach. The 2014 team had four more wins than the year before.
Saturday, Kwolek was inducted into the Potomac Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame at the University Club in Washington, D.C.
"This is a great honor and I'm appreciative to the Potomac Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse for this award,” said Kwolek.
“I love this sport and I'm blessed that it continues to be a huge part of my life as the head coach at such a prestigious university."
A DC product, Allison (then Evans) played at Annandale High School since her sophomore season, earning All-Met honors as a prep player. After college, she came back to volunteer as an assistant coach at Annandale.
Kwolek played her collegiate lacrosse at William & Mary, starring as a standout midfielder, twice earning All-Conference honors and serving as captain her senior season.
In 2006, she was selected to the prestigious U.S. National Elite Team and later volunteered as a coach's trainer for the US Lacrosse. She has since been a featured speaker at the US Lacrosse Convention.
Kwolek joined Richmond after serving as an assistant at Dartmouth, Columbia and at her alma mater in Williamsburg. She has coached two players who went on to win Ivy League Player of the Year, along with several All-Americans, All-Ivy League honorees and earned two NCAA Tournament berths and an Ivy League Championship.
She begins her third season at the helm of the Spiders program when the season begins on the road next Friday, February 13 at nationally-ranked Duke at 4 p.m. The home schedule opens at Robins Stadium Wednesday night, February 18 against nationally-ranked Virginia at 5 p.m.
