UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – With Opening Day this weekend, University of Richmond Spiders head baseball coach Tracy Woodson recently sat down with SpiderTV and addressed the upcoming season. Along with Woodson, RHP Ryan Cook, OF Tanner Stanley and OF Michael Morman also discussed the start of the year.
Entering the 2015 campaign, the Spiders were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 in a preseason poll conducted of the league's coaches. The Spiders' fourth-place pick is tied for the highest the team has had since UR was tabbed to finish second in the A-10 before the start of the 2008 season.
Last year was another successful season for the Spiders, as Woodson led the Spiders to a fourth-straight A-10 Tournament. Richmond is the only team to have earned a berth to the conference tournament in each of the last four years.
In 2015, the team returns a total of 19 players from a year ago, including seven starters and 12 members of the pitching staff. Along with four returning All A-10 players, the team also added 10 talented newcomers to the squad, including Valparaiso transfer Michael Morman.
The Richmond Spiders baseball team get the 2015 season underway on Friday, February 13 when the team plays UNCW in the first game of the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
