UR Hosts Minnesota In Midweek Series At Shepherd Stadium

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a two-game, midweek series at Shepherd Stadium starting on Tuesday.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday's games at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights, Va. are scheduled for 3 p.m. Live video and live stats for both games can be found at RichmondSpiders.com.
Scouting the Spiders
The University of Richmond Spiders enter this week's games with Minnesota with an overall record of 6-6 on the season after this weekend's three-game series with Penn was canceled due to weather.
Offensively, Richmond has been led by SS Tyler Beckwith and DH Kurtis Brown. Beckwith leads the team with a .362 batting average and four doubles, while Brown is hitting .326 and is one of four players with two home runs on the season. OF Michael Morman has driven in a team-best 13 runs on the year.
On the mound, LHP Zak Sterling and RHP Ryan Cook have paced the pitching staff. Sterling (2-1) leads the team with a 3.42 ERA and 22 strikeouts, while Cook (2-1) has recorded an ERA of 3.68 with 18 strikeouts. As a staff, the Spiders have posted an ERA of 3.69 with 101 strikeouts in 105.0 innings pitched.
Scouting the Golden Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been in Richmond since Thursday, as the team played in this weekend's PK5 Classic at The Diamond. Due to weather this past weekend, Minnesota will play VCU on Monday night at 6:30 p.m.
Heading in to the game against the Rams on Monday, the Golden Gophers have posted a record of 6-8 on the season. In a preseason poll conducted of the Big Ten's coaches, Minnesota was not among the top-six teams picked.
Schedule Change
This weekend's series against George Mason will now feature a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., with the second game to follow 30 minutes after. The three-game series will conclude on Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games this weekend against GMU will be played at The Diamond in Richmond, Va.
